Martina McBride’s Call To Women Cancer Survivors

Author: Shannon Miller

Olympic Gold Medalist Shannon Miller, Team Martina, Country artist Martina McBride, The National Women’s Survivors Convention and The Women Survivors Alliance (WSA) have united to send out a national call to all women cancer survivors.

Featured keynotes, empowering session leaders, and US and global cancer organizations, including Martina McBride, Shannon Miller and Team Martina  and others, will support cancer survivors of the NWSC, through the global campaign entitled “Survivorship: My Second Act.” As part of this global campaign, women cancer survivors all around the world are being invited to share their 500 word or less essay, written on this theme:

“Cancer was the journey; survivorship was the destination. Here’s how I’ve used what I learned from the experience.”

The deadline for these women cancer survivor essay submissions is July 31, 2013. Each of these essay submissions, and the core interest of the NWSC, will become a Global Call to Action for Survivorship, as women all around the world are challenged to use their experiences to help improve themselves and our society.

The survivorship essays will be displayed, printed on multi-colored paper (similar to the WSA logo) on a moveable showcase at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel where convention attendees will be able to sign the board in support of the messages with which they most connect.

“My Second Act” Showcase will follow the attendees to the Grand Ole Opry for the Martina McBride performance the last night of the convention (August 24th, 2013). There, all concert goers will have the opportunity to view the showcase while the Opry is turned Purple in honor of survivors.

“This is truly one of the most exciting events of the National Women’s Survivors Convention,” states Karen Shayne, Founder. “This is the time for women globally to take action and create awareness on survivorship issues.”

Essay Submission Guidelines:
Essay submission will begin June 1, 2013, and continue through July 31, 2013. Submissions can be made to the Survivors Convention website. While entrants do not need to attend the convention to have their submission displayed, attendance will be encouraged. Currently our attendees hail from the US, Germany, Australia, the U.K. and Canada.

Individuals may submit more than one entry, however each will need to be made separately and each must adhere to the 500 word limit.

By sending a submission, entrants agree that all entry(s) becomes the property of Women Survivors Alliance.

“Survivorship: My Second Act” is open to all women cancer survivors around the world. Women survivors are invited to submit a 500 word or less essay writing from this theme: “Cancer was the journey; survivorship was the destination. Here’s how I’ve used what I learned from the experience.”
