It’s Great to have a day to Celebrate Health and Fitness for Women!

Did you know that your local area may be hosting something special for this Health and Fitness Day? Check with your parks and recreation department, your community website, or your local college to see if there is an event for your participation today. It could be anything from seminars to active events, so take advantage of a great day with plenty of opportunity.

The National Health Information Resource Center declares that the last Wednesday of every September should be dedicated to the health and fitness of America’s women. Why?

Some Women’s National Health Statistics, according to the Centers for Disease Control:

  • 44% of women are not getting the daily aerobic activity recommended for good health standings
  • 16% of women smoke
  • 36% of all women nationally are obese
  • 33% of all women nationally have hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • 16% of American women do not have health insurance

These statistics are a little scary. The number one killer of women in America is heart disease, and with those statistics, we can see why.

To celebrate this Women’s Health and Fitness Day, try to focus on taking a positive step forward, instead of worrying which of those statistics includes you.

  • Walk with a friend
  • Take a fitness class
  • Make an appointment to see a doctor if you have trouble quitting smoking
  • Make an appointment for a check up if you are due
  • If you are one of the many without health insurance, start researching independent companies who offer health insurance to private citizens. OR, if you cannot afford health insurance, contact Medicaid.
  • Read your health.gov Patient’s Bill of Rights. Know your rights to health care.

If you are struggling with weight issues, you need to be on a health and fitness plan that spans beyond today. To get on a plan that serves you well, find a fitness professional that can help you. Certified Fitness Professionals undergo rigorous training and continuing education to keep them on top of their field. Many have nutrition licenses, as well. Browse your area’s fitness pros at Ideafit. Look for specifics for your area and your needs. You can leave them a message if you are not sure if they are a good fit for you. Many fitness professionals work in lots of environments. Some will even come to you.

SML TIP:  If you think hiring a fitness professional is expensive, think about the expense (and pain and suffering) of hypertension and diabetes.

Obesity is the biggest health crisis facing our women, with 36% of them struggling with this.
