“Read and Romp” Jacksonville

Author: Shannon Miller

As parents we tend to focus on our child’s health with regard to sleeping, eating, vaccinations and safety. However, reading is a critical part of a child’s health and well being.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, children who were read to at least three times a week as they entered kindergarten are more likely to have mastered the letter-sound relationship at the beginning and ending of words before they leave kindergarten than children who are not read to at least three times a week.

Further, children who were read to at least three times a week as they entered kindergarten are more likely to understand words when presented in context in both the spring of kindergarten and the spring of first grade than children who are not read to at least three times a week.
